Fall on a Plate: This Week's Features at Barrels & Boards

November has arrived, and Chef Manny Hernandez and the kitchen are cooking for it. This week's features bring smoky Spanish heat, sweet corn and brown butter, a skillet of vodka sauce poured at your table, and a pistachio-crusted rack of lamb made for a long, slow dinner. Behind the bar, two new cocktails are taking on fall: one with pistachio, one with apple.

Here's what's on this week.

Appetizers

Steak & Crispy Yuca Bravas — $17

Patatas bravas, with a Latin twist. Tender, seasoned beef tips are seared with roasted garlic and caramelized onions, then piled over golden-crispy yuca wedges. A smoky Spanish bravas sauce and roasted garlic aioli go on the side for dipping. Pickled red onions, fresh cilantro and crispy garlic finish it with brightness and crunch. Order it for the table, and then order another.

Seared Bay Scallops & Bacon Corn Pudding — $19

Sweet, salty and buttery all at once. Tender bay scallops are pan-seared and set over a creamy roasted sweet corn pudding, then topped with crispy applewood-smoked bacon and charred scallions. A smoked paprika–brown butter sauce ties it together. It eats like a late-harvest supper in a few bites.

Entrées

Tableside Chicken Parmesan alla Vodka — $29

This one comes with a show. A golden-crispy breaded chicken breast arrives over campanelle pasta, followed by a hot cast-iron skillet filled with house-made creamy vodka sauce, melted mozzarella and Parmesan, served right at your table. It's the comfort classic you know, just louder and cheesier.

Pistachio-Crusted Rack of Lamb — $42

The centerpiece of the week. A tender rack of lamb is coated in fresh herbs and pistachios, roasted, and served over a creamy roasted parsnip and potato purée. Glazed rainbow carrots and crispy leeks add color and texture, and a rich black cherry–port wine reduction brings everything together. Save this for a celebration, or for a Tuesday that needs one.

Dessert

Apple Cider Crème Brûlée — $11

Fall, served under a crackle. A silky vanilla custard is infused with apple cider and topped with a delicate caramelized sugar crust. Cinnamon-poached apples and house-made brown butter shortbread come alongside. Tap the top with your spoon and enjoy.

From the Bar

Going Nuts in Manhattan — $17

A Manhattan with a nutty side. Woodford Reserve Private Select bourbon meets Amaro di Rucola and sweet vermouth, with a pistachio infusion plus brown butter and chocolate bitters. It's rich and warming, and it makes a natural partner for the pistachio-crusted lamb.

The Big Apple's Calling — $15

Bright, smoky and a little bit spicy. Tequila Ocho Blanco and Rosa Luna mezcal are shaken with apple-cinnamon agave and fresh lime, then topped with grapefruit soda. It tastes like orchard season with a touch of campfire.

La Crema Pinot Noir — $13 glass / $52 bottle

A silky, fruit-forward pinot that works with just about everything on this week's menu, from the scallops to the lamb.

Fiddlehead IPA — $9

A crisp, citrusy New England IPA at 6.2% ABV. Pair it with the Steak & Yuca Bravas and you're set.
